Detox With Yoga

I’ve experienced something unexpected in my yoga practice, detoxification!  I’ve listened to and followed my favorite yoga DVD hundreds of times, hearing Suzanne Deason say that detoxing of the body is possible through yoga practice, specifically from the twisting poses.  I didn’t give it too much thought until I had a real life personal demonstration of it this summer.

I made quite a lot of beef jerky this summer, mixing marinade for the meat, and then tending to the all day process of smoking it outdoors in one of those electric smokers.  At the end of each day, I smelled like a giant stick of the finished product.  Showered and shampooed, and doing yoga one evening, I heard one by one, from each of my family members walking through the room where I was, saying, are you making jerky again?  I was not.  No marinade in the house, smoker shut down and all clothing previously smoke riddled, was washed.  We realized the smell was coming from me!  Wow!

This really got my attention and I started noticing from that moment, every time I did yoga I noticed some new change in my body.  Not just the benefit to my fitness, but my digestion improved, my skin looked brighter or some other phenomenon occurred.

The twisting  poses actually squeeze toxins from the organs.  So, not only are we strengthening and stretching our muscles and tendons when we practice, we are giving our organs a work out too.
